HAPPY #6 CADDIE POO!!!!

Someone had a birthday!!! Yes, I realize I said I would post more often and this post, yet again, is a few weeks late but as they say, better late then never. :)

Well what a birthday!! I of course had to work that day so it was busy to say the least. But "Thor" didn't seem the least bit worried. As you can probably tell we had an Avengers theme and this year, "Thor" decided to bring his friends to the bowling alley! This great new place in Greensboro called SPARE TIME made the party an extra special day I must say. It helped to have a host be there to help the birthday party along and to have all the paper goods and decorations supplied. It is a bowling center unlike any I have been to, fit with a VIP section with couches and Laser Tag right inside the facilities.

All the kids had such a great time bowling and spending there 5 tokens that come with the party package. And stuffing there faces full of pizza and cake! And thank goodness for a dear friend and owner of ALL 2 SCRUMPTIOUS CAKES for making the most amazing cake ever!!! It had edible stickers on the sides that were 3D when you looked at them through these super cool superhero glasses! It was amazing, on top of the fact that her cakes not only look amazing but taste amazing too! Real buttercream frosting. MMMMMM like homemade straight out the kitchen!!

So thank you to all the family and friends who came and gave presents and gifts! He had one heck of a super hero day!! (Hopefully my thank you cards will get out before the end of the month.)

AND THE WINNER IS...........

Ok this was an old post that I had started a month or so ago but never finished or posted. I had trouble with uploading the video of the boys. So as I return to update this blog, I find that all the video and pictures I took are missing. :( BUMMER! Here is the post anyway. I wrote it so I might as well post it. Who needs photos and video anyway. We have our IMAGINATIONS!!

It was homeschool field day last week last month. I have to say, it was a bit of a challenging day but for the most part, a successful day. Christian and Caden participated in quite a few events. There happened to be 58 kids total. We learned a lot about not giving up and how awesome it is to finish something you started. (Maybe that last part was for me.) Everyone received the classic "participation" ribbon. Caden was the only one to actually come in 3rd in an event.....The Flamingo Stand. In the 7 years old and younger group, only 7 children remained standing after trying their best at all the previous events. So standing on one leg, Caden takes the bronze white 3rd place ribbon! I did not get a chance to take a picture of the ribbons. At that point we were all tired and just wanted to head home. But I did get some great video of the action. The 50 yard dash and the Potato Sack race. See if you can spot the boys. You may even hear a bit of my yelling  cheering so I suggest you keep the volume slightly turned down.*

*and this is where you insert your IMAGINATION.......

Garden Update #2

I see Carrots and peas in my future. Actually, I feel like the one carrot pictured may end up being my only descent one. But the process was worth it. Through all the hard work of planting my summer crops of tomatoes, sweet potatoes, snap peas, carrots, peppers, and basil, I have truly found gardening as my sanctuary to get away. I really love it. It calms my day to focus on something other than me or the life stuff that sometimes bogs us down. It's not for everyone. But it is for me.

Anyone have any tips on sweet potatoes?? I went out on a limb and bought them, not really knowing even how to care for them. I think that is the part of gardening I enjoy. The anticipation of what may come up. Even if it isn't a whole lot. It still a wonder to learn about the plants, the different types of plants and how each one has its own little quirk.

Thank goodness for boys is all I can say cause they are gonna be some serious helpers shelling and harvesting if we get as many veggies as I anticipate. Off to weed I go!

Happy Memorial Day!!

It's been too long between posts......again. I always start this blog up with the intentions of posting more frequently and it just never seems to happen.

So the least I can do is say we have the pool up and we are spending our Memorial Day thankful for our soldiers who fought for our right to enjoy this beautiful, fun and relaxin day with family.
Happy Memorial Day everyone!!!

GARDEN: UPDATE!

Someone caught me harvesting.

Well it has been busy! Sorry it's been a while between posts. I have been working a big event in my town know as Furniture Market for the past few days. I love it! But it is hard work. So figured it was high time I post an update on how the garden is actually doing. These pictures are from a few weeks ago. At this point the broccoli is all harvested and cleared out and the sunflowers and peas are growing in, as well as the carrots. The broccoli didn't do so well but for the first time ever growing, I was stoked to have what I got! I think the cold spell we had made for some small crowns but now that i know so much more about the broccoli as a plant, I feel confident my fall crop will be much better. (I guess we will see when the update comes in fall, I may end up eating my words.)

So far, I have had one pest, a rabbit, right in the beginning of planting the lettuce and broccoli so I did buy a fence just high enough so that the cute little bugger wouldn't ruin the whole lot but that I could easily step over.
The broccoli before it was super bushy! And my awesome fence to keep out silly rabbits!

I have learned so much! Gardening is becoming so much more of a hobby and relaxation for me. I am amazed everyday what I learn when I look up the veggies I plant and read all about them and how they grow and harvest. It is Gods great hand at work! Now all I need are more helpers with weeding and watering other than this girl.......
Lucy.....always trying to get in and help. Not this time lady!

Boys can paint nails too, right?

I just had to share. I had a fantastic day I never want to forget. After listening to arguing between brothers for most of the day, I declared "Quiet Time." That means I am laying down and they each get a book and they lay down and I read each one of their chosen books. Usually by the end, at least one boy is sleeping. And maybe, just maybe mom will be too. But on this occasion, after reading Thomas the Tank Engine, my oldest says to me, "Mom, can I paint your nails for you? You haven't painted your nails in a while. I can do it for you." My first thought was what a disaster this will turn out to be. But I was literally so tired I just didn't care. " Sure, paint my nails." Next thing I know, my feet are getting rubbed ( with lotion) and I am face down on the floor with a back massage. Seriously?! Is this for real? And then it's time to paint my toes! Not the best choices in colors, but beggars can't be choosers. I think this "Quiet time" needs to happen more often. :)

A Little Vacation Not Far From Home

Last year was a great year! A little difficult with a job change for Chris but with it came such peace. He had been working at a job that left him completely tired and just wasnt very fulfilling. He now works for a company that he feels cares about his hard work and is never tired like he used to be. With all the hard work he and fellow co-workers put in last year, the company was able to earn a new level of sales which meant a prize of a trip to Great Wolf Lodge. We are lucky to have one so close to us. Only 1 hour away! We had heard so much about the place but had never been. Boy were we excited! So when the time came to go, we packed our bags and headed out! We haven't had that much fun as a family in a long time! What a place! It is a theme hotel that has an indoor water park. To say that the kids had the time of their lives is an understatement. We stayed in one of the themed rooms which has a bunkbed room for the kids with their own TV. PERFECT!

In the lobby the kids had fun watching the animated clock tower come to life. As well as nightly dance parties. Kids were everywhere! They even have an interactive game in all the hallways where you use a "magic wand" to finish quests and unlock treasure. SWEET!

Someone found treasure!!!

The waterpack was huge! I cant believe they can fit something that size inside. It was just fantastic. The boys could have stayed all day there. Nico even had his own little area to play!

Caden and Nico tried to race each other down these two slides. It was so great to see them both be able to have fun together. I think Nico might have flipped around on the orange one a bit. :)

And lets not forget all the arcade games and sweet shops. Mmmmmm!

Let just say we will be heading back here for another vacation really soon! With the lodge this close to home, the kids will be asking to go everyday!! If you live near a Great Wolf Lodge, GO! It has everything you could ask for in a hotel. Best family fun ever! It kept these 3 wild boys busy and mom and dad happy and stress free! :)

GARDEN? I Got this!

So I have decided to do a garden this year. Actually, I did have a vegetable garden a few years back but it wasn't anything I took a whole lot of time with. This year, I plan to go all out! I really want a successful garden. With my hubby's job change comes a change in finances and what better way to save some money then to plant a garden and grow your own food! Plus I just love to garden! It is something I will always remember my Grandpa G doing. He always took me to his community garden when I was a wee little one, and it was always the best time ever. Learning about the plants, watering them and watching them grow was just great with a guy like my Grandpa. So I would love to pass that love of growing to my boys.

Well, to make a long post short, This garden has proved to be a bit harder when you really put work in, instead of just taking care of it when you actually think too. :) I took a class at our local library on raised gardens and really thought I had this together but it turns out when you are dealing with the weather and plants that need specific times to be planted it gets a little tricky for me. So this is how things have come along so far.....

Not to bad, since I did have to do this without the help of my husband. He planned to do it the night before but by the time we had purchased all the materials it was late and the screws we had ended up not long enough. :( So the next day while at work I did my best to jimmy rig it and it didn't work. After 4 stripped screws later, I went to Lowes with the boys and got the correct screws. But still did not have enough power to man the drill so I ended up screwing them in by HAND! And it was probably 40 degrees outside, which is very cold for NC. So my hands were numb by the end. BUT I DID IT!!

Next will be adding the soil and the cold weather plants, broccoli, romaine lettuce and iceberg lettuce. They were already having a hard time because it took so long for me to get the bed going.

I'll post updates as the garden grows. I think it will be a lot of fun to see how this turns out. THANKS TO THE BIG C FOR ALL MY PHOTOGRAPHS. including the self portrait. :)

I'M BACK!!!

It's been way to long, but I am back. Yes it is true. No, i'm not kidding (that I know of. A lot can happen between now and tomorrow with 3 boys, but here's to hoping for a long run.) Really, I want to start this blog back up simply because I don't need facebook right now. I gave up facebook for lent and it has proved to be a FANTASTIC thing. I recommend everyone out there give it up. Well.... maybe not to everyone because then facebook would be no longer. But I do encourage everyone to take a break. It was so good to see how much I looked to a website as a means for spending my time. And I found myself in a constant state of comparing. I don't know. That's just me. Plus the fact I felt obligated to be on facebook or people were wondering where I was and if everything was ok. I mean geez! I just didn't post for a few days. I didn't die or anything. :)

So I took a break. I want real connections sometimes. Not superficial ones. And so the Blog is back. To keep people updated while still being connected through cyber space. (Does anyone say that any more??) I'll still visit facebook too. Just not as much so I hope you enjoy these updates. I forgot how much I enjoy posting them. I love looking back at the years and now I have a live journal of some of the greatest parts of our lives! That is what really encouraged me to write some more. If only for my kids to look back and see all these great memories.
